Book one of a series, The Atlas Six is a fantasy YA novel with magic, a secret society, conflict and love. It was darker than I had at first imagined, and scarier, characters - and nothing - as they first seemed. It was thrilling and beautifully crafted, showcasing the author's in- depth understanding of her own magical system. It was fascinating, bringing together fantasy and real-world problems. Even the most other-worldly magic was relatable, having a seating in the world we already know. Set in present day but with altered elements, it focuses on the aspects that make us all human and the limits we must place on ourselves. Read to see what I mean!
